We sing a love song as we go along

Ok. I'm a bit of a From Scratch snob, and I normally wouldn't be caught dead buying Oreos. Which is hypocritical, because I love Oreo ice cream the most. And Oreo cheesecake. And a lot of things that involve Oreos. Even the word Oreos, though it's starting to look like gibberish because I have typed it so many times. So I am totally hypocritical on ( Read more... )

I spent the day making homemade gingersnaps, which are ungodly good...

But then I went to Trader Joe's and got these things called Candy Cane Joe-Joes which are basically Oreos with bits of candy cane in the creme filling, and OH MY GOD are they good.

I've heard of those things - they sound delicious. Unfortunately, I reside in the land of ice and snow and no Trader Joe's!

Ooh! I made these two years ago and they. were. awesome. Mine were a little messier cuz I used white chocolate to enrobe the truffles. People loved them, but I found they were a lot of work. Still, delicious!

I once hand-rolled truffles. It was a mess. You have to work quickly because the heat of your hands warm the chocolate.

If I had proper appliances I could do so much more.

I put the naked truffles in the fridge for a bit before I enrobed them. I don't think truffle making is supposed to be tidy.

And you don't really need much in the way of fancy appliances for these: just a blender or a food processor.

I have no food processor. I want one, as well as a Kitchenaid stand mixer. Kitchen supply stores are like toy stores for me.

If only Santa didn't pass my house every year.
(Cue Lonely Jew on Christmas.)

One doesn't need an electric appliance to make cookie crumbs, just a strong bag and something heavy, like a hammer or a rolling pin or fist. Creaming in the cream cheese takes some muscle with a wooden spoon.

Truffles are easy except for the hand-rolling, but that's not bad because then you can lick the chocolate off your hands. :)

Now that my birthday is close I wouldn't mind trying this recipe, my friends would love it, we all love guilty pleasures. I admit that I could use some spare room in my small fridge... Who knows? Perhaps I'll get a new fridge as a present (it's not like I don't deserve it), one form Frigidaire parts would be great. Now I'll just have to prey my friends see this comment :).
