Question for my LJ Friends

Aug 04, 2008 20:06

One thing I try to do is to memorize something new every month.  Some months I am better at it than not!

So far I have memorized:

American Presidents in alphabetical order
American Presidents in chronological order
Two paragraphs of a RFK speech (A Tiny Ripple of Hope)
The Gettysburg address
High Flight by John Gillespie Magee Jr.
Sea-Fever by John ( Read more... )

Periodic Table
State Capitals
All of the state information for your state (bird, flower, tree, motto...etc.)
Preamble to the Constitution
The Night Before Christmas
Green Eggs & Ham
A passage from your favorite book (when I was 12 I memorized half of a chapter of Little Women)
Kings of England
Shakespeare's plays

This is a cool exercise. I may steal it from you.

I was actually thinking about you today. Reread some of "A Journey of 1000 Miles" and remembered how much I enjoyed it.

Oh...great suggestions...particularly the State info!

Steal away-I call it my anti-alzheimer's book.

Thanks for the compliment-I am so glad you still enjoy The Journey. :)

I have done zero writing and just a little reading this summer. But I have biked probably 500 miles! Cropper invited me to a chat room and I told her when the weather got colder I would probably check in.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. They are great! Hope all is well with you.

I like The Ming's list. And I'm very impressed by this cause I suck at memorization.

Good luck!

Awww...don't sell yourself short!

Ming's list rocked...the periodic table could be a challenge since some of those I have NO idea how to pronounce!

Hope you are having a great summer.

No really, I do. We were supposed to memorize the periodic table for one of my undergrad classes and I never quite managed much of it.

I am not sure if I will be able to pull off the periodic table since I don't know how to pronounce everything!

Your list is impressive. My memory is shit, I can memorize something and it's gone within days. Repeating the same thing a few million times might make it stick... maybe.

Hamlets soliloquy
All the character in the Lord Of the Ring plus The Hobbit.
Recognized breeds of the AKC, if you really want to get OCD you could do it in the order of recognition...

Yeah, you knew it would be animal related with me. *rolls eyes*

Good choice with Hamlet...I may not be able to do LOTR since I have never read or watched the books, but I bet I could get something going with Star Wars!

"I have a Dream" speech by Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost

"Patterns" by Amy Lowell

(it doesn't rhyme, per se, but I think you might like it, I memorized this in High School for a performance piece. It still resonates.)

That is a timeless piece of literature, no matter my age or experience, I have always found that poem speaks to me. I am glad you love it too!
