how long is too long

stupid question to pose to lj land on this monday morning:  How long should one keep clothes that do not fit?  Ie. fat pants.  4-5 years ago, I was about 25 lbs heavier.  And about a size or size or two bigger.  I have 4 pairs of jeans that I just never wear anymore that I'm just toting around (and various old work pants are in the same boat).  I' ( Read more... )

Everyday wear? I'd say 2-3 years depending on the quality of fabric and garment in question.

unless it's something really dressy, I try to get rid of things if I've not worn them for a year or they get too big.

I've unloaded so much clothing in the last few years it's almost obscene.

get rid of it......if you need it again then you can rebuy it.......bit otherwise it's just taking up space!

I keep two pairs of 'fat-pants' jeans/shorts, and a few big t-shirts/sweathirts as my spare 'messy clothes' for painting/muddy gardens/etc. Typically when I'm running around like that, I would rather be in more comfortable baggy clothing anyways. At the same time, it satisfies my "worry" that I would wake up and for some reason things wouldn't fit. I fully understand it isn't logical, but it works for me ;) I can keep some big clothes and they still can get used.

Everything else gets 'assessed' and appropriately sorted back into the closet or to goodwill about once a year when I switch out my winter/summer clothes.
