Today my license plates got stolen off of my car.  People in CT are retarded and I can't wait to leave.  The worst part is the scam the DMV is pulling in this whole process.

You don't have to pay for new plates if they get stolen.  But the police station doesn't write up police reports for 3 days.  And you can't drive without plates.  See what I'm ( Read more... )

good. I may eventually put the plate back on the back but I think I'll never put the front one on again (even though there are brackets) just so in case it's ever stolen again I won't have to go through this again, I can just put the front plate on the back for temporary.
In the meantime though, I'm keeping the plate in the window because I have this odd feeling that the day I put it back on normally it will get swiped.

i think you can write the plate number on paper or cardboard and put STOLEN PLATE on it and drive that way......i have seen other people do that

the cop said I could do that but I'd probably get pulled over, so I just shelled out the $25 for license plates at the DMV yesterday

what the hell.. well, they can't peel off the sticker anymore, so now this.. what, are they too cheap to pay for their own registration? sorry that happened, sounds like a major nuisance.

They're probably using your plates for illegal purposes so watch for tickets that come in the mail under those old plates and hold on to the copy of the police report because you will probably need to fight it.

In my home town, the town clerk could provide you with a temporary permit to drive if you don't have your car registered yet. Maybe there's something similar for plates?

I would go down to the police station and demand a copy of your report. I never got a copy of the police report from when I got my purse stolen.

yeah thats a good point, parking tickets or other tickets. I already changed my registration and the cops have the old plates marked as stolen since yesterday morning, so unless someone got a ticket in the first few hours of stealing the plates, I'll probably be ok.

I will get a report, but will have to wait a few days until it's done.

It's not just tickets, but also vehicular homicide, drug trafficking, and a variety of other crimes that individuals would want to hide their identity while doing.

well if any of that stuff happens, it's already on the record as stolen plate. So as soon as they run the plate it will come up that way.
