Okay, I originally read (and adored!) this a while back, but wanted to wait until I had time to properly review instead of leaving the glibbering, fawning comment that would have come out immediately after finishing. Sorry it took so long
( ... )
Sorry it took so long! Dude, no worries -- I apologize *hugely* for how long it took for me to respond and thank you.
Jason and the girls and the scandal, because Batman and Robin and socioeconomic politics are just so deliciously sticky, especially with Jason and his history Oh, *awesome*. I really enjoyed working that scene, and all its interpretations, out in my head. I'm right there with you on the tasty stickiness of Batman and his underclass urchins.
The way they clash and the way they meld. OH MAN YAY. I, uh, couldn't have found the right words for what I wanted & needed that scene to accomplish, and here you are, *giving* them to me. Thank you so much.
This is truly generous feedback and I can't possibly thank you enough. *dances you*
Love it love it love it. I love how you have them *communicate* with words and body. Your Jason is scrappy and rough and tender and true, just like he should be. His moodiness and the names he calls Bruce... he *would* call Bruce a "poor bastard" because that is what he thinks Bruce is in love, and moreso, that's what Jason himself is -- the way Jason puts his emotions and desires onto Bruce and then Bruce reflects them back is *perfect*. I hadn't thought about it before, but that's exactly what they do. Brilliant.
I haven't read fic in a while but I can never pass up your Bruce/Jason. Or hell, your Bruce/anyone :) THANK YOU!
Seriously, this fic blows my mind. I haven't seen Jason so beautifully through the lens of the ten-year rule before, and seen Bruce's attraction to him made so self-evident. This is going to be the fic that all others in this pairing will be compared to from now on.
How much do I love the class issues in this? I love that they're there, and not just ornamental, but front and center.
The other day I was telling Petra that I wanted you to write the guilt-ridden Batman/Red Hood epic, but you know, this story has filled that need.
I keep thinking that I'll figure out how to reply to this properly -- even adequately -- but that's not going to happen. I'm really touched and flattered by your opinion of this, and of me.
Class issues are usually uppermost when I think about Gotham, but never more so than when Jason's involved.
This is one of my favorite characterizations of Jason Todd: dark, hot and in your face. I am so glad I read this story, I find it to be so good. I love the plot and subject matter, I never read a fic that put him in a cage match but it makes so much sense. The angry youth trapped by various cages from society, like being poor and being an orphan.
The contrast between him and Bruce, and then later on the comparsion, is really well done. I enjoyed that you show Bruce in a guise out of batman and as more of the social elite that he is, and should be shown more.
Ah I just love this piece, gives me lots of ideas on how to view Jason Todd.
Thanks very much - sometimes, when I get my pseudo-OTP tinhat on, Jason strikes me as the perfect match, the best Robin if Robin is a baby Bat, for Bruce. That thought's quickly succeeded by utter horror, since canonically Jason has had the toughest time of all, not least at Bruce's hands. I'm especially pleased that the characterization of Bruce-as-the-suckpig he is worked for you; I think it can be really easy to view Jason as the freak among the normalized wealth of Bruce, Dick, and Tim.
Well I do find it interesting that there aren't a lot of stories that really show Dick as being uncomfortable with money, his family were nothing but circus folk when you get down to it. I just know I have fallen so much in love with Jason, just intimidated to write him.
Jason would be a brutal batman, as we can see now as the red hood. They (DC) do seem to be softening him somewhat though, or maybe the craziness of the Lazarus pool wore off?
