I'm not that into TVP, I prefer beans, pulses or mushrooms for the protein bit. I sometimes use Beanfeast in a sauce for pasta or rice, though. I sauté some veggies, add dry beanfeast, water and tinned tomatoes, cook a bit and then usually some kidney beans and extra garlic/spices. Beanfeast is pretty studenty on it's own, but if it makes up no more than half of a sauce it can be nice.

TVP comes in flavoured and unflavoured. Unflavoured tastes of nothing. I haven't used it in ages but I believe a little marmite is good for flavouring. Smoky paprika is also good for giving something a robust flavour.

I like to use TVP in chili or lasagne for the texture. Note that both of those are heavily spicy dishes. Lentils do just as well.

I use mushrooms, beans or lentils to replace meat. Better than any manufactured stuff I've ever tried.
