Of these I've read...only Lolita. Oh, & Slaughterhouse-5. I dunno the canon.

Yeah, but I wasn't an English major, so a lot of the "Classics" passed me by. Plus I guess I'm still sort of counter-culture about my book choices; I'd rather read groundbreaking pulp than "canon." I feel like too many of the classics will just be link-- the past's equivilents of "Memoirs of a Geisha" or some such rubbish.

I've read Portrait before, and the concept sort of captivates, despite not having the time or desire to really let it...linger. Ryan had a book of his poetry when we met and it helped me to see Joyce in a different light. I want to give him another chance to woo me.

I didn't have the mythology knowledge when I read it originally, and have since had a class. I imagine what was lost might be redeemed! I have high hopes- lol.

If you decide you can't stand Portrait, try The Dead (a collection of short stories) -- much more palatable!

that's some serious reading. i love dh lawrence, woolf, joyce and mccullers. i have a reading list for the summer, too, but i haven't gotten very far yet :o i would rather watch movies and daydream.
