Having been raised in a Chinese-American household, I tend toward a sneering contempt for most of what passes for "Chinese food" in this country. In general, I find it to be oversauced, overcooked, underspiced glop--more Middling Kingdom than Middle Kingdom, and a blot on the honor of my, uh, step-people's fine culinary heritage.
