SXSW Bonus
There were a number of people and bands that played SXSW that I wanted to see and didn't get to see or that I heard about during the festival but never got to go see them.

SXSW Recap Day Zero and One
Day Zero
This year SXSW started full force for me on Thursday the nineteenth. We got downtown early in the morning to work the "bag stufing setup." We were assigned to the film bag crew so we spent the next half day unpacking boxes of schwag and setting it out on tables getting it ready for the bag stuffing that would take place that night.

Recovered
Apart from some sniffles and a bit of a sore throat I think I have recovered from SXSW.
I have been wading through my photography work getting it ready to turn in. During each shift we had a number of assignments that we had to photograph and I have to turn in the ten best pictures from each of my assignments. We are allowed to color correct the ( Read more... ) -
Hyperpotamus
SXSW Music kicked into full speed yesterday.
First thing in the morning I was walking through the convention center to go check out the artist check in lines to see if I could spot anyone worth photographing. I still had my concert lens on from the night before so I stopped at the little cafe to change out my lens.

SXSW
Wow, so SXSW is going strong. I have been there all day and much of the evening every day since last Thursday.
Sadly the power connector died on my main laptop so I am having difficulty processing my pictures to put them up. The laptop is under warranty so I will be able to get it fixed but it will take a bit.

Fire
At least 80 homes have been evacuated, with 23 already destroyed, in the area of Bastrop State Park. Several businesses have also been lost including at least 30 antique shops at the Alum Creek Center.
Bastrop State Park is about ten miles from our house with the woods that are on fire leading up to our subdivision.

Austin Building Collapses
Reports are coming across twitter that a building collapsed in Austin trapping/injuring dozens of people.
Update: It is rumored to be a Luby's and the people may be freed.
Does anyone have any more details? -
Tonight In Austin
I have mentioned Trey Ratcliff on here before. He goes by stuckincustoms on flickr and his work in hdr (high dynamic range) photography is widely credited with popularizing it as a serious art form. He doesn't have a long history in photography only getting his first SLR a couple of years ago and still holding his day job as CEO of a game company ( Read more... )
