I have really been enjoying my job lately. I am in the middle of designing my first well. It is very challenging, but in a good way. Planning how to drill a well is like a logic puzzle, except that you don’t have all the information and you don’t know if you got it right until you drill it. Wow, so its been a while since I have updated this thing, but I have been really busy.  I was in Houma, LA for seven days at a rig hand training program.  The class if for new employees of Nabors drilling to learn how to be a roughneck and how to be safe on an oil rig.  I attended so that I could learn how some of the basic rig operations were done ( Read more... )

I drove to work this morning and just as I was about to get out of my car, I heard a familiar beat. After Katrina, everyone saw what happened to those people who stayed in the city and asked why they could not have been evacuated.  So when a stronger storm (it was a Category 5 on Wednesday) was coming straight for Houston, they closed everything down so people could evacuate with plenty of time.  With the expressways basically turned into huge ( Read more... )

So it looks like a hurricane might be heading for Houston.  We might have to pack up the cats and evacuate.  Its too early to tell, but hopefully within a day or two, we will know more.  We do not have renter’s insurance because its one of those things that I am always meaning to do, but somehow never get around to.  I was trying to get a quote ( Read more... )
