For some reason, while I was in the hospital and taking all kinds of antibiotics and other medicines, my fingernails, which usually don't grow very much and which I have picked at and bitten since I was a child (although less in the last few years)...started to grow like crazy...and so nice and strong. Yep. It's true. Menopause...or peri-menopause..or whatever the hell this is...is fecking annoying. My body gave me a nice break for 2 months and now it hates me. Thank goodness for "good tylenol" from Canada is all I have to say today. It made today a little more tolerable.

The kids had no school today due to Veteran's Day (which I still think of as Remembrance Day, even though I've lived in the U.S. for 10 years now) and I just let them do what they wanted for the most part. I got email informing me that my paid account is expiring. I haven't used it much at all in a long time but find it hard not to renew it since it is only eighteen dollars or something...and I gave up Netflix DVDs so I can kinda rationalize it that way. Olivia's a bright girl, especially when it comes to reading and writing. She's doing well in math, but is currently having trouble with the concept of subtraction. It flusters her somehow and when Olivia gets flustered, she shuts down and thinks she can't do anything right. We were at Gaston County Museum for a drop-in daycamp all about American Myths, Legends, and Tall Tales and there was a presentation about slave life as well. It was very interesting and we learned a lot. Afterwards, we went to the carriage house where the museum has a lot of old wagons and carriages displayed. Bill and I took the kids to see Despicable Me in 3D this morning. They'd been watching clips online and Wes had even read the junior novelization of it after he purchased the book at Borders. It was a great movie. Predictable, really, but really enjoyable and fun and ultimately heartwarming. I loved it and we'll probably buy it on DVD when it comes ( Read more... )
