I had a realisation today. I've been fretting for months about not being a position to go an volunteer in Calais or Greece for a more substantial amount of time. I haven't even been able to take a hugely active role in the local refugee solidarity movement, other than collecting stuff for drop offs at the camps or hosting refugees in our home ( Read more... )

New job starting in October. Same place, more responsibility (and happily a bit more money and most importantly flexible working, so I can have an afternoon a week with the girls). Slightly intimidated by the task ahead, but hopefully I'll do a decent job. Will be sad to lose the close contact with current faculty colleges, as new role is across ( Read more... )

The pace of political change at the moment is utterly exhausting. Things feel very bleak. Thank god for family, close friends and music.

Referendum tomorrow. We are voting in, obviously. Higher education in this country is screwed without EU funding, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Really feeling quite scared of what a leave vote would mean for the prevailing mood in this country...
