i got to thinking today about being in a band. how much it sucks to be exact. even when i was kicked out of my first real band at 16... it sucked. my band that i have been in the last few years called it quits a few weeks ago. we didnt light the world on fire but it still sucked just as much as that first band when i was 16. i wondered for a few ( Read more... )

i want to like what i like (without criticism) and have a life outside 3 chords and local scenes and the notion of "making it".

TRUTH BOMB, IAN!!!!!!

this was an awesome post. i have always figured that things had to be this way with dudes in bands, and this confirms it. awesome. and i'm glad you left if you were feeling that way, because not only are you too old for that shit, but you're too SMART for it. you also have something a lot of peeps in bands don't have: a firm grip on reality. and that's awesome.

and i say do the bar rock / tribute band thing! IT WILL PAY BILLS, that's for sure, and that's a lot more than most niggaz can say about their flash-in-the-pan dime-a-dozen local bands. fifteen year old girls can't go to bands and help them make decent ca$hflow.

for reals, this was cool to read, especially never having been in a band myself. probably even more awesome to read for those who have!

you should probably text me to make sure that is the case...

yeah well not hiding how i felt pretty much drove my band to ruin.. but things happen for their reasons..

hope all is well with you and yours out there in midwest : )

liking the music is one thing

choosing to get involved with all the bs is another and for anyone with half a brain it will get over bearing sooner or later

i know i probably shouldn't say anything, but i don't think you're alone in a lot of your feelings towards this particular topic.
and i'm sure you know who i'm talking about.

it's disheartening that the band ruined a once good friendship.

it was ruined long before the band broke up... when i look at how things were for the band after i went away in the summer of 07 til we ended it... it sure beats the shouting matches and near first fights of the first two years of the band. i had made my peace with the, for lack of a better word, "lazy" tone of the friendship and up until the end of the band, held no ill will toward him. i often asked him to do things outside of the band, diners, guitar stores, tunes... and other things i would do with any other friends. more times than not he opted to not hang out. which again was fine by me. defiantly not a showing of commitment to the band in my humble opinion. but to him, me not being around was a show to them that i didnt care.. cmon. so what if i dont wanna go see so and so at the asbury lanes or care if band x is playing next month. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ME WANTING TO BE IN THE CLAMPDOWN ( ... )
