i've said this before when i've worked with python and other scripting languages because it drives me crazy: I love static type checking.

yesterday Jim left. i really wish the constant for the null pointer was consistent across languages. i'd say half my compilation fixes are related to switching between "NULL" (C/C++), "NUL" (ADA) and "null" (Java).
