“Today was their anniversary,” Nessie whispered against Jacob. He glanced down at her.
“Your parents?” Nessie nodded sadly. “You okay?”
“Yeah, it’s just been about twenty years since my parents even been in the same room together. They had like a perfect happy ending, and in just a few years everything beautiful they had together was destroyed. I don’t understand - they’d loved each other so much. How could dad do that?”
“Don’t know, Nessie… really don’t.” Jacob whispered softly, he hated to see Bella hurting from the betrayal, but it hurt more that Nessie was hurting from it as well.
