Weirdness

I have mixed feelings about my shore leave on Risa. I visited the bioluminescent gardens, which were splendid, and I got to meet a very pleasant historian/painter (didn't know the ship had one of those, but I guess there's a place for the liberal arts in Starfleet...?). But then there was that bit involving Chekov and some cheating at cards and- ( Read more... )

mystery, awkward, chekov, insomnia, risa, what have i done?, shore leave

Do not pretend you did not have fun.

Which part was supposed to be fun? The impending sense of doom? The pool-cue fencing? The running for our lives? Ok, the pool-cue fencing was kind of fun.

See? You had fun. We should do it again!

You do realize I'm not your personal bodyguard, right? I'm really not that well-versed in your approach to "socializing"...

Painting isn't actually part of my duties, you know - just the historian bit. And I do a bit in engineering, actually, making sure those helm controls of yours stay working the way they're supposed to.

And I did paint the gardens. They were too lovely not to. As long as you aren't planning on dragging me off to go gambling, I wouldn't mind letting you take a look.

Oh, sorry! My mistake. Though, in my defense, a starship captain having his own portraitist isn't too far fetched. In fact, life-sized oil paintings of the ship's head officers isn't such a bad idea... I'm thinking yellow ochre for my uniform, maybe a midnight blue background...how good are you at painting nebulae?

Excellent! I promise I will never, ever drag you off to go gambling. Helmsman's honor. Just let me know when you're ready to host a viewing!

Are your sure you wouldn't rather have a background of various interesting botanical specimens? I'm not too certain about the nebulae, myself.

And I will never ever go gambling again - historian's honor.

I just have to add a few details to the paintings that I didn't get around to on Risa, and then I'd be glad to share.

Hmm, I do love plants...but I'm going for something more...majestic? Galactic? I mean, it might look a little strange to have me pictured, arms crossed, staring heroically, into vegetation...

Of course, of course. Whenever it's ready. Oh, I just had another brilliant idea: shipwide art show. Chekov draws things sometimes. Mostly food. Maybe Mr. Scott could sculpt something out of scraps. I'm sure there would be an interesting turnout!

...spaghetti?

It's not Keenser in the ducts again, is it? Can't imagine what he'd be doing with spaghetti, but that's the only explanation I can think of off the top of my head...

Keenser has means and opportunity, but I couldn't imagine a motive or why spaghetti, of all things. My theory is that something between my quarters and the mess hall went wrong-but I'm not going back into the walls to find out!

I'll send someone up to take a look. Wires might have got crossed somewhere - you know how it is. The more complicated the plumbing, the easier it is to block things up - or in this case, get things mixed up.
