Sorry it's taken so long for me to get a new chapter up! I've been incredibly busy and this bit has kind of been a slog to write. :/ I hope it turned out decently anyway.Phase 6: Turbulence and Landing

America sighed, reaching to run his fingers in soothing patterns through Russia's hair. “You really need to get some rest. Everything is ready for the baby, and all the preparations we've made aren't going to be undone just because you turn your back for a second to get some well-deserved sleep.” Recollection suddenly glinted in his eyes. “And what was that about a packed suitcase?”
“The chapter on preparing for labor in your book said that it's wise to pack a bag of necessities for the stay in the hospital...”
“Oh, geez. That's, like, the only thing in the book that's not from personal experience. Well, that and stretch marks. Really lucked out there! But, no, I'm not going to a hospital. I mean, think about it. What's a human hospital going to do with me

The longer Russia thought about it, the more he found himself approving of the idea. Even if he were a human man and America a human woman, he sensed that he would be apprehensive of their baby being born in a hospital. He knew it was irrational, but the fact that there would be so many doctors, nurses, patients, and other people with histories and motivations he did not know set paranoid alarm bells ringing in his head. What if a careless doctor switched his baby with another? What if a clumsy nurse dropped the child? What if the slightest oversight in sterilization procedures caused the baby to contract a staph infection? Just the hypotheticals were enough to send chills down his spine

A persistent ray of early morning sunlight hit Russia's eyes, making them clench tighter as he frowned in displeasure. He awoke in stages. Stage one: irritation at the sun for his rude awakening. Stage two: a vague recollection of extreme grogginess and feeling much better in comparison, having gotten a sufficient amount of sleep. Stage three: becoming conscious of something humming at the back of his memory that could explain why he had been sleeping fully clothed, boots included, on the couch

“How did we make something so perfect?” Russia asked America, though his eyes were still glued to Anastasia as she drifted off to sleep again.
America laughed. “I ask myself that every time, and I still don't know,” he said. He glanced over and smiled as he watched the steady rise and fall of his daughter's chest as she slept. “Sound asleep. You can set her in the bassinet, if you'd like.”
“Nyet, I think I shall hold her for just a bit longer. I am... still trying to take it all in. The intensity of these feelings.”
“I understand,” America said. “I've felt that same way 51 times now.”
Russia finally tore his eyes away from their careful memorization of his daughter's features. He looked at America with great regret and said, “I really meant it, you know. I did not want to miss her birth. I'm sorry.”
“Oh, I know,” America said, waving his hand dismissively. “You don't have to apologize. Besides, when I said that it's always just been Canada and me, I meant it. For my states, most of the time the fathers weren't even in the same

My brain just broke on the utter, absolute adorableness of this. *A* Poor Russia trying to baby proof the house and fainting again was so cute and funny too, and tearing up when the baby grabbed his finger, awwww. I'm always so happy to see update for this fic!

Oh my God this was so beautiful! Once again it struck me how much I love your voices for both Russia and America! I especially like America's sense of humor. It's perfect

Thank you so much, anon! I'm glad you enjoyed their voices. I'm pretty self-conscious about trying to do voice well, since it's a pet peeve of mine when everyone in a fanfic (or even worse, a professional novel) all have the same speech patterns, senses of humor, etc.
And hmmm, you actually kind of gave me an idea for the next bit! I think I will incorporate some relatives into what I already have planned for the next chapter. :)
I'm curious, though . . . it makes sense that because Aleksey is politically entirely Alfred's kid that he'd just be a Jones, and that he wouldn't get a patronymic like his sister, but what does the 'E.' in his name stand for? At least Khrushchev was in power by the time Aleksey would have been conceived, so America and Russia were on much better terms! ♥Heh. I told myself I wouldn't reveal the "E." unless someone asked, but here we are! In my headcanon, there's something a little bit mystical about the human names of nations/states/etc. The names they get, especially their first and surnames, are sort of

Most in the household, including the servants, generally called the Grand Duchess by her first name and patronym, Anastasia Nikolaevna, and did not use her title or "Her Imperial Highness." She was occasionally called by the French version of her name, "Anastasie," or by the Russian nicknames "Nastya," "Nastas," or "Nastenka." Other family nicknames for Anastasia were "Malenkaya," meaning "little (one),"[7] or "shvibzik," the Russian word for "imp." -WikipediaI got curious and wanted to check if the Nastenka was right. Seems like it was. \o/ I suppose Ivan might call her with different nicknames though, since it seems like Russians like to do that, depending on how affectionate they are feeling, or something. xD Oh and I also found "Nastasya" and "Stasya" are used for girls called Anastasia so I guess those would be okay too. Apparently there's also a tendency that one nickname is used when scolding someone but I dunno how to form those. They seem to be short and end with -ka, right
