the shins must be as sore as those of the costa ricans, who ran headlong into a brick wall called brazil last night. six weeks ago the kids from albuquerque were on everyone's lips & televisions; $10 tickets changed hands for $40. this time the buzz was mysteriously absent, band and audience seemingly intimidated by the size of the half-empty venue

i was at the shins/mercury rev show too. i kept laughing at the headliner's antics, and i felt amazed that no one else was. eventually, a guy standing next to me started smoking pot, and after a bit of that, he laughed too. it didn't really make me feel better.
