squeaky box spring

Hello, hipsters. I have a bed about 4 years old with a mattress and box spring. The frame is heavy, solid wood. I always sleep on the same side, but I do rotate the mattress periodically and it's still looking good. Recently, a spring is squeaking right under the spot where I get in and out of bed. It doesn't squeak when I'm sleeping/turning over ( ( Read more... )

Yes. Figure out exactly which spring is squeaky and cut the box spring open right there. Cover springin wd40.

If it's only about 4 years old, is it still under warranty? If so, can you get the manufacturer or the store you bought it from to fix it?

Does your box sprint sit on wood slats, or is it self-supporting on the frame?

Can you tell if it is a spring squeaking, or if it is the box spring frame rubbing on the bed frame?

Could it be one part of the frame rubbing on another part of the frame?

If it is the frame rubbing, try coating the squeaky surfaces with wax. This will act as a lubricant and doesn't smell. Don't use WD-40 or other kinds of oil that can leave an odor that people may find objectionable.

It sits on wood slats. But there is only ONE spot and it's a "boing" kind of noise, not a squeak. That leads me to believe it's a spring, not a frame issue...

If it is a spring problem, the only way to fix it is to open the box spring up, determine which spring is loose or broken, and then fix it. Is the box spring still under warranty? If so, see if you can get it fixed.

If it's not under warranty, then open up the fabric cover on the bottom of the spring and see if you can figure out what's wrong. If you can find the problem spring, but can't figure out how to fix it, post a picture.

Note, also, that it might not be a spring. It might be one of the side stiffeners or another component.
