Help!

My son's christening outfit is 100% cotton. The tag says dry clean only though? If I hand wash it in cold water and line dry it, will it be ok?

Does it have decorative trimming, smocking etc.? That would make a difference.

Yes it has a bit of trim. I was able to wash it just fine though whew!

It will probably shrink. Maybe quite a bit.

I think it will be fine. Just wash in cool water and hang to dry. They put dry clean only labels on to cover their butts. I have a lovely linen shirt that says dry clean, it comes up beautiful if hand washed as do my silk and rayon blouses. Smocking doesn't shrink, but trims that are made of other fabrics might.

I would risk it. Although maybe dry flat rather than line dry, in case it stretches.
