Yeah, uh, so did Walter Cronkite die? I can't remember, but it seems like a few years back there was a lot of reminiscing about Walter Cronkite, and going on about how he was the most trusted man in America. Probably because he died

i always like looking at flat maps and wondering 'who the hell lives up there?' and ya know where my favorite place to say 'who the hell lives up there?" is? why its northwest territories. i want to think only first nations live there or something. really when is our trip to canada. ive never been. lets go!!
well it's not in october, because that's the best month ever in boston, and i have to be here for all of it. but maybe we should go skiing in canada. or just fly to montreal and stay in a hostel and go to a bathhouse. tom is coming.
i've only been to niagra falls, so i'm up for any canadian trips. and i've also heard good things about vancouver, although it mostly comes from the likes of people who also love seattle, which i'm sure i'd never be able to get past its west coast-ness to fully enjoy. i have weird things that block me like that. oh, and while i'd love to live in canada, i've heard it's a hard thing to do-- getting the work visa isn't easy, and if you are thinking of becoming a citizen, well forget it. that's like a 15 year process. or you could just wed one, since canada legalized gay marriage.
remember survey of the day (SOTD)? i like canada so much that the very first poll question was: "what is your favorite canadian province?" someone should start those up again.

so, i actually cried yesterday when i read the headline about Peter Jennings. i, like you, trusted and depended upon his insights and analysis of most things, especially of the political variety. i remember the horrible 2000 election when the counting/recounting went on all night, and he and i were awake in Times Square dealing with the mess of this confused, conservative nation. i met him twice, he loved Teach For America and supported our schools. it really was a loss.
