there is mild sexiness in this part
part one part two part three part four/five part six When he woke up again, he felt miserable, his nose stuffy from snot and sore from being hit, along with the rest of his face. His body felt incredibly weak as well, and he remembered that he hadn’t eaten in at least two days. Sitting up groggily, Ryosuke looked around the room through his swollen eyes, which finally landed on Inoo, who was coming over to him with a blanket.
“Oh, you’re awake!” Inoo dropped the blanket and rushed over to him, gently forcing him to lie back down. “You have no idea how worried I was, when you just fainted and I saw how beat up and wet you were,” he said all this very fast, his hand brushing back Ryosuke’s hair. It felt so comfortable, and Ryosuke never wanted it to stop.
Ignoring Inoo’s protests, Ryosuke leaned up and kissed him, softly though, because of the cut he had on his lip. “My mother was angry at me, and drunk,” he spoke, his lips still touching Inoo’s as his eyes filled with tears, reality finally sinking him, “I don’t know why she was mad though, but she just kept hitting and hitting and screaming, and eventually she stopped and I waited until she passed out to leave,” he was full out sobbing now, clinging to Inoo desperately, “I was going to just sleep in the park, but it was raining and cold and I didn’t want to be alone, so I came here, and I really miss you, Inoo,” his words kept spilling out, like a dam that had just been broken, “I don’t care if we’re not lovers or boyfriends or whatever, but I miss your friendship, so much.”
“Sssh, it’s okay,” Inoo was still petting his hair, their eyes locked as he watched Ryosuke fall apart, “I’m here now, alright. I promise I won’t leave again.”
Ryosuke broke the eye contact in order to throw his arms around Inoo’s neck, hugging the man as close as he could, crying in relief, now, when Inoo hugged him back.

It took him hours to calm down, his tears finally subsiding into weak hiccups as he cuddled up against Inoo, his head resting over the man’s chest and listening to his heart beat, Inoo’s arms curled around his waist. He felt exhausted, like he’d just been through an emotional tsunami, and he knew he needed rest, but the soothing sound of Inoo’s heart beat beneath his ear was keeping him awake.
It was just so beautiful to listen to, the steady thump-thump, thump-thump echoing in his head. It reminded him that Inoo was here, holding him close after the storm had settled. He wanted to lean up and kiss Inoo, so bad, but he didn’t want to muck things up again, not after they just made up.
Closing his eyes, Ryosuke listened to Inoo’s heart beat for another hour before falling asleep, unaware of the gentle kiss Inoo pressed to his forehead, and of the feelings the older man was struggling to repress. When he woke up several hours later, it was pitch black outside, the moon shining through the living room window. He was still nestled in Inoo’s arms, a blanket over them, and he felt calm, relaxed.
“How are you feeling?” Inoo asked, and he looked up, surprised to see that he was still awake.
“Better, my face hurts though,” he admitted, laying his head back down and exhaling slowly. “You want to talk about this, don’t you?”
He could feel Inoo’s nod, so he continued, “First off, my mother isn’t a bad person. I won’t ever say she’s perfect, but she’s not bad. She just loses her temper when she drinks sometimes, and I tend to take the brunt of said anger.”
“Has she been hitting you for long?” Inoo’s hand was back in his hair, and he leaned into the touch.
“Since I can remember. My mother loves me though, she doesn’t mean to be abusive. It’s the drinking, which I wish she wouldn’t do, but she does, and I can’t stop her,” Ryosuke looked back up at Inoo, his eyes narrowed, “And if you say any of this, to anyone, I’ll tell the principle you slept with me. I don’t care if I get expelled in the process, I love my mother and I won’t let anyone hurt her.”
“Is that why you won’t go to college, then?” Inoo asked, a slight change of subject, “Because of her?”
Ryosuke sighed, his shoulders sagging as he rested his chin on Inoo’s chest, still looking up at him, “In middle school, I left home for two weeks. Slept in the park mostly, crashed a few nights at Mirai when she was able to sneak me in. I just got tired of it, you know? Always taking care of her, getting hit by her…when I went home though, my mother was practically comatose from drinking so much. She needs me, Inoo,” Ryosuke didn’t expect him to understand, but it felt good to get these feelings off his chest, so he continued, “If I went away, she’d be lost without me, and I can’t do that to her. As much as I despise her sometimes, I love her a whole lot more. She’s my mama, and I’ll do anything for her.”
“Even screw up your life?” Inoo asked, looking at him in disbelief, “Look, I’m sorry Ryosuke, but this is ridiculous. You’re smart, really smart, and to waste that talent on some low-income job is just foolish.”
“You don’t understand, and you never will, so don’t tell me it’s foolish,” Ryosuke bit back, feeling defensive now, “It’s my life, I can do whatever I want with it, and what I want is to keep my mother happy and alive. So fuck off, alright, I’m not going to college and there’s nothing you can say that’ll change my mind.”
“Is your mother okay with this, then? But, judging by the glare you’re giving me, I’m assuming you haven’t even told her,” Inoo stated, his features a bit condescending.
“I haven’t,” Ryosuke mentally cursed Inoo to hell, trying to keep himself calm, “I’m just going to tell her no college accepted me.”
“Really?” Inoo raised a brow, “Yamada, you were given a scholarship to attend this school because you scored a near perfect on the entrance exam. You’re second in your class, and could be first, if you weren’t so lazy sometimes. Do you really think your mother is going to believe you when you tell her that no college accepted you?”
“Doesn’t matter, she’s drunk half the time anyway,” Ryosuke’s mouth was straightening into a thin line as he eyed Inoo. Damn, had he always been this annoying, or was he just blind-sided by Inoo’s attractiveness? It was very possible, for even now, despite his intense anger at the man, he wanted nothing more than to be taken by him over and over again, held close in his long arms and kissed by those soft lips.
Shaking his head, Ryosuke sat up and touched his eye, wincing. “Can you get me some ice?” he asked, and Inoo got up, returning a moment later with a few ice packs. Helping Ryosuke hold them to his bruised eyes and cheeks, he muttered a quick thanks and closed his eyes, trying to relax. The ice on his face felt painful, and Inoo was sitting far too close for his comfort, could even feel his warmth breath ghosting over his lips. Counting to ten, Ryosuke schooled his breathing and his urges, concentrating solely on emptying his mind of all thought.
Which was working, until he felt Inoo’s soft lips against his own, his tongue tracing along the cut on his lip. He gasped, eyes flying open and Inoo deepened the kiss, his hands holding on to his waist. No, no goddamnit, they were just friends, nothing more!
Feeling himself being pushed back, Inoo’s lips never left his, his hands moving from his hips and up his shirt, his cold fingertips making him jump. He tried to push Inoo away, but he was weak, in body and in mind. He wanted this, so damn bad, but was terrified that Inoo would ignore him again. The months without him were awful, and Ryosuke never realized just how much he valued Inoo’s friendship until it was gone, and he was left heart broken from it all.
He couldn’t do it though, not after Inoo removed their clothes, the ice packs tossed aside so that he could pamper his face with gentle kisses, his hands gripping both of their erections and bringing them off together in one perfect, earth shattering moment.
“Don’t leave me again” Ryosuke found himself crying as he came down from his high, his thighs sticky and his arms wrapped tightly around Inoo’s neck. “Please, you’re one of the few friends I have, and I can’t lose that.”
“I don’t want to be just friends though,” Inoo replied, his voice muffled as he kissed Ryosuke again, their noses bumping together. “I want you, Ryosuke,” his heart skipped a beat at hearing his first name spoken by the man, “Which scares me, a lot, because we could both get into so much trouble for this. That’s why I was ignoring you before, I felt like every time I even looked at you, people would be able to see what we had done, and I didn’t want us to suffer the consequences of being together.
But,” Inoo wiped away his tears, looking at him like he was the best damn thing on earth, and it made his heart soar and his nerves tingle to see that expression on someone, especially someone as amazing as Inoo, “I can’t ignore how I feel, and I know it’s asking a lot, but will you be with me, Ryosuke?”
“Yes,” the words left his lips as easy as air, and he pulled Inoo down for another kiss, his heart beating erratically and his mind going blank as they spent the night tangled in each others arms.
