in my naivety, i tend to assume that in general people are concerned with humanity, aware of injustice, seeking acceptance and peace, trying to make the world better in some way...even though i know this to be untrue. optimism, perhaps ( Read more... )

You are most deffinatley not the only one. I often find myself frustrated and shocked about how little people know about what goes on in the world around them. However, I also find myself wondering whether or not awarness would really change anything. I would like to think it would, but I have seen evidence that would prove otherwise. Even I serve as an example that awarness hardly changes anything. I am well aware of the poverty, starvation, and injustice to humanity that goes on in this world every day, but I have done very little to prove I care. And its not that I dont care, because beleive me I do. I just cant see how I can make a difference signifigant enough to change anything. All I can do is stay aware, avoid ignorance and try and be a better person for it. And not vote for Bush. One step at a time.

I miss you by the way. Lunch? Let me know.

sometimes it just makes me want to cry. I cannot understand how people can have so much hate in their hearts. I just want to be able to explain what I feel within myself, and I pray that if they knew that they would change. I just want acceptance and love, it shouldn't be this hard.

Duuude I totally saw that guy holding the "If you practice homosexuality you will go straight to hell" sign in Red Square too. I don't know whether to laugh or cry sometimes. I think some people, like that guy, just need a good swift kick in the junk.

We don't have the anti-gay brigade here. Perhaps because unlike the US, most christians are either Catholic or non-evangelical protestants (although I think evangelical protestantism is the fastest growing form of christianity). However we have idiots galore here too. Anti-maori, anti-muslim etc. without knowing any of the facts about anything. It pisses me off too. I don't know what I can do though. Not associating with these people and only socializing with like-minded people does not solve the problem. You are only confronted by it in the newspapers etc. But you are not the only one who feels this way.
