Last Tuesday at work was a nightmare. I took a 4-day weekend over the 4th of July, and last Tuesday, it was like everyone had waited until the very moment I was gone to bombard my email with requests, many of which seemed to be written in some sort of obscure code, or referred to projects I'd never been told about. Most of today has revolved around food or groceries. I got up fairly early this morning, just a little past 8; that was more than likely a result of completely accidentally sleeping until 11am yesterday. Oh well. Ugh, so much rain. We had lots of rain last week and over the weekend while we were away, and much more last night and today. Houston is all pretty flat and close to sea level, so it floods quickly and badly. I love a real, good, relaxing vacation. On Thursday night, we left Houston and drove up to Lake Texoma (north of Dallas, on the Oklahoma state line), and spent the weekend at my uncle's lake house. It was fabulous. Quiet, secluded, and lovely weather. This is the view from the back porch:

The local news is breathlessly reporting on the effects of Hurricane Alex, which made landfall an hour ago in northern Mexico. It's causing some rain and some wind and some choppy conditions around the Houston port, and some higher than usual tides and light flooding in some oceanfront areas.
