I'm not sure how I even remembered Mohs -- it's been two years since I played Tales of the Abyss. I guess he left that much of an impact on me.
Anyway, Mohs is probably the most frustrating character to the player in the entire game. Throughout the game, his appearances can be summed up as such:
Party: *trying to do something*
Mohs: *interferes, usually with Oracle Knights flanking him*
Party: "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING"
Mohs: "SCORE SCORE SCORE BLAH BLAH OTHER RANDOM NONSENSE SCORE SCORE"
Party: *gets screwed over*
He's just...a blind follower of the Score, which you learn as the game progresses isn't a path to prosperity but a path to destruction. He starts a war on flimsy grounds because it's stated war will happen in the Score, outs Natalia as a fake princess when the party tries to stop the war (to be fair, she was -- the real Princess Natalia was stillborn), gets Ion killed, and puts Anise through a whole lot of grief. And this goes on for well over half the game (to put this in perspective, the average Tales of the Abyss playthrough is 40-60 hours).
And his downfall is just...incredibly unsatisfying. In an attempt to become the new Fon Master, Mohs has Dist implant Seventh Fonons into his body (since he can't use the Seventh Fonon regularly), and gets transformed into a monster. As time progresses, Mohs starts losing his sanity, and by the time the player finally gets to kill him, he's too much of an insane blubbering mess to get any satisfaction out of his death. It's more of a mercy kill than anything else.
I loved Tales of the Abyss -- far more than even Tales of Symphonia, which is saying something. But the way they handled Mohs was just...bad.
