Stargate Universe - More WTFery

Jan 12, 2009 22:48

Continuing my bizarre compulsion to make myself the unofficial Bearer of Weird News, I came across this link via io9 earlier today, containing two more casting calls and a plot summary.

Several things to say about this: ( Cut for the spoiler sensitive )

The only way I'm going to be excited about this is if the 9th chevron is time and the Destiny turns out to be parked some twenty gazillion years ago and the stranded people eventually get to earth and discover some dinosaurs and then realize that they are the progenitors of the Ancients, a la the telephone hygienists in Hitchhikers. Or maybe if their repeated 'please submit any ethnicities' from the call-sheets actually eventuates to a show that isn't wall-to-wall white Canadian people. Or, I don't know, if it's really, really gay? I'm fickle.

The 'ninth chevron is TIME' thing is my favourite bet too, although if it turns out to be true it really won't make any sense considering how the rest of the Stargate works - six symbols for triangulation and the seventh for the point of origin, and all that.

The dinosaurs bit seems unlikely, though. I wonder vaguely if the "connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates" bit will have significance for SG-1 - I like the idea that the Universe folks are stuck in the past activating Stargates that then have repercussions for characters in the present, but they'll have no idea who was responsible and worry that the Universe people didn't survive.

To be fair, SG-! and SGA weren't quite wall-to-wall white Canadians - there was fake-English SGA Chevron Guy! Who, er, died. And Bitchy Chinese IOA Lady! And each team had That Token Black Alien! Okay, I see your point. :-/
