Is this what it feels like to want to write...?

Valparaiso, in the morning, she is a city that tosses in her sheets. She raises the covers, fends away the morning light for a little while longer, and lets the sheets rest against her wet lips. Her breath is moist. Her tongue slides against her teeth. She closes her eyelids for just a few more moments ( Read more... )

Wonderful travel writing!

BellaVista, Sin Vista? might mean "A beautiful view without anything to see" or "Beautiful View without (really) seeing". Just a guess. Maybe talking about "hidden" problems.

I got the direct translation -- what's got my curiosity is what the lack of view is about? The view is spectacular up here, but maybe they have an issue with housing development/building downtown...maybe with all the military ships in the harbor? Immigration was a bit creepy, on that subject. Got to be lined up with a whole bunch of other people, watch some other lady have her immigration form "borrowed" without being returned, and then got to be sniffed by dogs in case one of us was trying to smuggle in a plant or animal product.

Weird and fascinating. Where exactly did the bloop happen though...?

"This site yielded not only a .wav file of the noise itself, but the fact that the sound is believed to be coming roughly from 50oS; 100oW."

It's vaguely in the South Atlantic, abouts off South America, somewhat near Antartica.

Well, we were vaguely in the South Atlantic, off of the coast of South America, somewhat near Antarctica -- but that's not very descriptive, since there's a lot of open water down there and a lot of Antarctica to be near... We did travel directly from the Falkland Islands to the South Shetland Islands, to be more specific. Was the Bloop near or in between those two island groupings?

Lovely!

I know what you mean about hotel art. I found a little hotel in Petaluma that was delightful because it didn't look like a clone of every other dishwater hotel in the U.S.: the owner had actually furnished it to suit their own tastes.

I think there's a new trend in hotels called "boutique hotels" which is all about the concept of non-traditional looking hotels. Hotels with personality... It's an interesting trend, and I haven't made my mind up about it entirely; but at the very least it doesn't involve painful art!

Your post tantalized my senses and then gave me a riddle to chew on ("Bella Vista, Sin Vista").

That's good reading!
