I must be out of my mind...

Because I went out and bought a bikini earlier this week and then actually sported it last night at the pool. I haven't had a bikini since I was seven or so. I wouldn't have one now either except Matt and I were bumming around, and he suggested we hit a couple of stores while we were out so I would no longer have the excuse of not having a bathing ( Read more... )

Hi, Dave!

So Dell's a no-go with you, huh? Well, I reckon you would know being on the Geek Squad and all :) What do you think about Emachines quality-wise since I think they're now part of Gateway?

Dude, you are going to shame me with your bikini. Eek! :O

I am tempted to disown you guys for being scared of Windows XP. ::shakes head:: It's just not that hard... Don't you use XP at school? Please tell me you get it? ;D

As for computers, I use multiple Dells everyday at work as do my computer geek friends, so I feel pretty safe recommending them. Customer service isn't perfect, but as far as I can tell, all tech-support for all computer/software companies has been moved to India, so you're pretty much screwed no matter what. I know Gateway used to be good, but I've heard some horror stories from recent buyers that has me wanting to steer clear. Anyhoo, I think it sucks that Mom and Dad are determined to buy something refurbished so they can cling to Windows 98. Pathetic. They're gonna have to give it up and switch to XP sooner rather than later.

Anyhoo, I think some evening when we're in Lake City, we need to go down to Pirate's Landing and have a drinky on the balcony since you're legal now. :)

Meh, I don't know about that :) I figured I might as well be comfortable, and the worst that happens is I scare everyone away from the pool and have it all to myself :D

Yes, I use XP all the time at school and find it very easy to work with. I think Dad would like to go ahead and get something with XP, but Mom is still clinging to Windows 98. Dad at least realizes that XP is the way to go, but Mom thinks that 98 will last forever and she can keep using floppy disks forever. We went to a store that sells refurbished towers yesterday and, fortunately, their prices weren't anything to write home about since they wanted about the same amount of money for a used tower that (with just a bit extra) can get you a complete desktop set-up that's brand new. So, we'll see :)

I had to correct mumtaz in that we've had perfectly flawless operation of our Dell and that in fact it's Earthlink's DSL service that she's thinking of that doesn't have perfect customer service. And yeah, Gateway just isn't what it used to be. My Dad is on something like his third or fourth Gateway and he's since decided that his next purchase will likely be a Dell. One advantage about a Dell is that it doesn't have proprietary RAM like Gateway. What that means is that you're locked into only buying RAM upgrades from Gateway which means you'll probably always pay more than if you were able to by RAM upgrades from somewhere like www.crucial.com - So yeah, I think your Mom is completely out of touch. The very fact that XP is about a bazillion times more stable than Win98 is enough of a selling point to begin with. Also, if you're just so stuck in the past that you can't give up 98, there is an option in XP to have a "Classic" layout vs. the more intuitive XP interface. Try to convince them NOT to be stone-age loonies.

At the moment, it seems as though they've hung up the search for a new tower, but I think my dad is leaning more towards a Dell package deal.

That's good to know as it may help to persuade my mom to move on from Windows 98 :) I think she got frustrated with XP and wasn't willing to really take a moment to adjust to everything.

LOL! I am certainly trying my best :)
