i am spending a couple of days in germany before the big finish in paris. the weather here is better than in vienna. even though the night train was the most comfortable one i´ve been on yet, i´m still a bit frazzled today. we´ve just been relaxing, wandering the streets and visiting the zoo. tomorrow i will hunt up some museums.

so i arrived in vienna today. i didn't see any museums or anything yet, but i did see this huge festival in front of the town hall. there were brass bands, a ton of men wearing lederhosen, and various drink stands. i had some beer and pretzels with some friendly natives. tomorrow i will try to explore the museums in the imperial palace. i'll ( Read more... )

so my travel plans changed at the last minute and i'm at venice now. i've seen st. mark's, which must be one of the most opulent churches in the world. i went to the top of the campanile bell tower, and almost lost my hearing when the hour changed and the bells above us rang for 5 minutes. i also saw the ducal palace, which has a huge council ( Read more... )

so today i went to the top of the duomo. it really is a fantastic view. i also saw the two big museums in florence: the galleria della academia, which has michelangelo's david and some of his other statues, and the galleria dell ufizi, which has more renaissance art by botticelli and da vinci, among others. i'm not sure if i spelled those ( Read more... )

haven't got much time to update. i'm in florence right now. i just came here from rome, where i saw all the big attractions. i still can't believe that i was in the vatican on the day that the pope died. well, that's it for now. i'll try to add more details later.

well, it's taken a while, but i'm finally in france. the train workers were on strike so i had to wait a long time before i could get in from spain. i'm in nice now and the weather is great. i'm just hoping that the rest of the vacation goes a little more smoothly...

i´ve spent the last day or so in madrid. it´s lovely there. the weather is excellent and i´ve seen plenty of historic buildings and plazas. the best place i´ve seen so far is the royal palace (palacio real). you can take a tour inside and see some opulent rooms. words can´t do justice for them, so you´ll have to wait for pictures and/or a ( Read more... )

can`t write much (am in an internet kiosk) but the south of france and spain are great. then again, i`ve been mostly in trains and stations...
