Stone texture bases

I made these all of these bases from this photograph. It's a collection of tiny stones from the beach at Fort Cronkhite, California. They're in a translucent plastic film canister; I just stuck the camera lens into the opening and took the picture. I love how each stone has its own texture, almost like a personality.

These are fabulous. And I believe they are from the same picture of yours that I borrowed to use in my book for the boys in Wallowa -- the Guess What I Found at Fr. Cronkhite book. I can show you sometime when you're over. But these close-ups are really gorgeous. Are 4 and 6 and 11 all carnelians?

When I first looked at these, before reading the text of your entry, I thought the teasers were made from photos of a nebula -- they have a flowing glow that's quite extraterrestrial. Really lovely!

I love how the micro so often reflects the macro in nature. And I find the "flowingness" of stones fascinating.
