ideas for the holidays??

So I'll be the first to admit I am not a very domesticated wife. I don't cook at all, but I want to start (one of the reasons I joined this community!). And I want to try and make something for the holidays this year, rather than just bring pies from Perkins (a restaurant my husband manages)! I'm thinking that starting out with casseroles would ( Read more... )

i love this reipe. it's super easy, and i think stuffing the shells with the cheese is fun (and squishy!!!!) i added some finely chopped carrots the last time i made it and they added some nice texture. you can make this in one of those big aluminum pans you can buy at kroger which makes it work well for travel. i've carried this dish to gatherings, but never holiday stuff. pasta might be odd for that?

i love all recipes for stuff i'm unsure of doing. i read the comments other users have left. they are great for suggestions on how to make whatever it is, and you can adjust the serving size.

also, box brownies are always popular, unless your inlaws are savages. =p

Haha, I am pretty sure everyone would love the brownies but I am going to try and stay away from desserts for now. There are usually so many, anyway!

Thank you for the shell recipe! Pasta is a little different to take to a holiday dinner, but I could at least try it for MY family.. they aren't surprised with anything that is brought in, lol.

My sister always makes the green bean casserole, but I might look up some recipes for the broccoli and rice. Someone also mentioned to me one time a cheesy broccoli and cauliflower casserole, which sounds yummy if I can figure it out, lol.

What about something Mexican? Mexican food is good because I dont' think it's possible to ruin it. :-D I'm at work right now, so I don't have access to my recipes, but if you're interested, I can try to find something. Not sure if I'll be able to find anything without chicken though....maybe you can just leave the chicken out? Hm.

I would definitely be interested in checking them out, at least to see if it's possible to modify chickenless. Or if there's anything with ground beef, I can maybe substitute with refried beans like I always do at Taco Bell.. lol. I really love Mexican, though, so yeah that'd be great!

Would you mind sending me your email address? All of my recipes are in Word documents. I thought about copy/pasting them here, but then thought that would be an awful lot of work, so attaching them would be easier.

Totally not a helpful food comment here but - which Perkins does your husband manage? My hubby works at the Perkins home office in IT.

Cool deal. Well, mine works the help desk so whenever your hubby has to call in with a computer problem mine is one of the excited (haha sarcasm!) IT people he talks to. I love Perkins' pies. Mmmm chocolate french silk nom nom nom!
