There is a room in my school that is referred to as the Activity Center. In any sane insitution, it would be referred to as the lounge or the break room or something, because its main function is to house the vending machines. What activities might take place there besides the exchange of bills for granola bars* is beyond me, and I assume the name ( Read more... )

3. did you really expect people to get the wilco reference?

1. In what I can only assume was an effort to increase the student suicide rate, they demolished the old hang-out by the creek and replaced it with a supermodern playground of the future for the daycare kids. People still smoke out there, I guess, but no one worth hanging around with. I can't afford, nor do I really desire, to eat Wendy's food five days a week. Mostly I bring things from home or eat out of the vending machines, but a couple people I know eat in the lunchroom, so that is where I eat when my schedule doesn't allow me to avoid lunch at Hale altogether.

2. See the title of my post.

3. What Wilco reference? I don't even really listen to Wilco, I only know that song about the heavy metal drummers.

4. The ringer was off because I'd just come out of a movie, and I wasn't expecting any phone calls from anybody (I figured you in particular were sick and thus would not be phoning me). I checked my phone when I got up this morning, though, and I was upset to have missed you.

Yeah, that's how I felt. Maybe I should lobby for the inclusion of JCS in the music library of the school's new jukebox.

Dear Ray:

Nova had its problems, certainly I was fairly frustrated at it by the end, but Nathan Hale basically forced me out. One of the major was how damn claustrophobic it felt. It was about three times larger than Nova, but it felt so much smaller. There were times, many times, when I wished I had stayed (Hey, at least I'll be doing something, I told myself), but I never could have done it. I think high schools are designed to keep their students as children as long as possible. Been doing a lot of thinking about this recently.

Hey Victor -

Yeah, the environment at Hale was downright sinister at times. I'm very glad to be out of there. And I'm glad Nova didn't kill you. It was cool to see you at the show the other night!
