Myth Information

Mar 18, 2008 15:41

I'm a little tardy with this, but there may be one person on my friends list who still hasn't heard, so here are some statements on the latest LJ Drama.
True: LiveJournal has disabled the ability to make new Basic (free of charge and relatively free of advertising) accounts as of last week.
True: They forgot to mention this important fact in ( Read more... )

Let's just hope it doesn't end up being a well-known troublemaker.

Oh gawd not another race between Rhodri and Wardytron

Well, if each friend of yours recruited 99 others...?

Will support people start getting paid now?

Did anyone besides me read the recent New Scientist article on Web 3.0, which pretty well covers what the NuLJBizPlan is?

What do you reckon the write-off will be against capital gains when LJ folds in a few years?

Tell me again how i can preserve the contents and comments I have, thus far?

Very unlikely. Of course there are some senior support people who are already paid, but the rest do it for the love of the site and many of them are happier that way because it means they can do it when they want to and not when an employer tells them to. There certainly isn't enough money to pay the whole current team of support volunteers, and it's unlikely that a small paid team of support staff would offer the same quality of service (despite that some people are dissatisfied with LiveJournal support, it still ranks head and shoulders above almost any other customer support department I've ever had to deal with).

Back when Six Apart introduced ads, there was a rumour that support volunteers would start receiving a nominal stipend, but that of course never came about. On the other hand, support volunteers do receive perks. No one would want to do the job just for those perks, but if you're doing it anyway then the perks are a nice bonus.

Oh, that drama, hasn't there been another one since? :-) (the disappearing and reappearing interests)

That's not what the police officers said.

I don't know of anyone else doing so, FWIW.

I had heard of one person who I regard as a troublemaker apparently soliciting votes; let's hope he can't get the support of sufficiently many people who are "in it for the lulz".

*miscellanous flail of LJ-inspired anger*

I think the troublemaker you are thinking of is the same one I was thinking of when I wrote the post, though I must admit I have very little idea of who he actually is.

You stand and we promise to each rustle up as much support as we can find?
