This might be a silly question

But, how many of you here knit? I know that I am an avid, and by that I mean I have two sweaters, three pairs of regular length socks, two or four(I honestly can't remember) pairs of knee or over the knee socks, a few hats and a few pairs of mittens and a lace shawl on the needles, as well as a skirt or two, and more bobbins on my four spinning ( Read more... )

this sounds like an awesome idea. I just learned to knit and am still experimenting with scarf basics but I love to crochet and want to make clothes using both mediums. So learning how to alter patterns for my shape would be grand. I did find a book called more big girl knits by Jillian Moreno and Amy R. Singer at my library and they talk a lot about making patterns fit your body. I don't sew yet but as soon as I have space for a machine and more craft stuff I'll try that to. I can't wait to see all your pics!

big girl knits is great for a jumping off point. i cannot for the life of me remember the other book i have- one of the sweater pattern books that helps you calculate a bit better than that- the big book of sweater patterns? maybe that's it. right now my knitting books are a bit hard to get to- we are in the middle of trying to rearrange my massive amount of fiber, bot spinnable and in yarn form and books and wheels and tools, so i can't put my hands on them right now, but i find that one to be much more helpful than big girl knits. elizabeth zimmerman's books are also great for adjusting things on the fly and coming up with your own patterns since her books are geared more towards finding a stitch you like, figuring out you measurements, gauge, and the style of whatever you are knitting(as is the series of books i am talking about) plugging it all in, and poof, instant pattern. i love those series for that, and find them infinitely more helpful than a book of patterns that also has a few bits dedicated to helping you sort of ( ... )

Stefanie Japel (Glampyre.com) is just hosting an online course in how to fit knits to yourself PERIOD. She says it's not a design class, but more of a "fit" class. Her classes are getting A+ reviews and I own her book and a few of her personal patterns and have always been very happy.

And yup, I'm a knitter too:) I'm on ravelry under erinleighralph!

I don't think I'll ever know how to knit outside the scarf and hat stage. Sometimes I think I am getting ok, but then I see patterns like the commenter above me listed and realize that I will stick to my scarves.

Nothing like that yet. I just learned how to use stitch markers, lol, so baby steps. I also don't know how to reverse what I did when I mess up yet (that's what my mom is for) I still have a big problem losing where I am and doing the wrong stitch.

I also knit. Are any of you on ravelry? There's a group called "The Bust Line" to "talk about boobs of all shapes and sizes" as the community pages states. It's not just for patterns, but shopping tips and sales talk.

Yes, I have trawled through lots of posts in The Bust Line, due to 32H boobs ;) Still haven't gotten to putting short rows in any of my sweaters yet... but there will be a day! :D
