I haven't been to confirmation for my church for a while because of tennis, but I've noticed that it's getting increasingly harder to be there. I know that I'm supposed to get confirmed in May (eesh!) but I just don't know what to think anymore. All of these discussions about God and Jesus are just kind of scary ( Read more... )

do you believe in god?

it's good that you're helping out of your own free will and not because the bible tells you to.

I guess personally I'm not a huge supporter of the Christian way, because to some extent that includes violence and homophobia, but there are some good aspects to it, I guess, like helping out. Honestly, I think if someone is only doing something, even something good like helping homeless people just because they think they're following in jesus's footsteps, they're wasting their time by not thinking with their mind.

they're going directly against the bibles teachings by doing that, it teaches you to be tolerant, doesn't it? but at the same time it teaches you to hate people who don't believe in the bible. kind of hypocritic if you ask me

yea people who talk like that dont make sense. the bible basically presents both points of view on everything... for every verse there is a verse to counter it so people cant use the bible as an excuse to discriminate and degrade people

here you go to the common way of "if it makes you feel good" though. and it sounds like it works really well, but think about this; it FEELS really really good to go up to someone i don't like and give em the old one two, but it's not what i'm supposed to do because it hurts them. it doesn't matter how much of a reason i had, i can't do it. it's all about the choices you make. how you decide in every situation

Everyone has mixed feelings about being confirmed I know i did. But now after being confirmed and as i look back on it I find that is was the right thing to do for many reasons. It is all up to you though but it is normal to have mixed feelings as it gets closer to conformation.

I've been rethinking religon lately myself. I used to be like atheism all the way, but now that someone I was close to died, I'm having a hard time accepting that the soul just goes away. So maybe now I'm agnostic. Or spiritual. I don't know. The reason I've been so hard on religon is precisely what you said: people hide behind it in order to put on this face that they're good people, and I know some really nasty christians and some really gracious selfless atheists. It's really confusing.
