I've had a whole lovely day of deep thought and consideration regarding the future of this community, and this is what it comes down to ( Read more... )

If you want to make the default setting for posts Friends-Only from now on, for the community, you can set it to do so from the admin console by going here and typing this:

set for innocence_jihad newpost_minsecurity friends

This will mean that the default security level for new posts, from now on, will be at the Friends level, although the poster can then go in and edit their post to make it public for announcements and polls and the like. That way you don't have to worry about reminding people.

You're welcome! I love it... it's a big help if you run communities where you want everything to be private and members-only but you know you have members who are going to forget. If the mod of pornish_pixies doesn't use it, we should probably pass it on to her, and other mods in her position. That'd be one less headache for them, too.

Good decision. A number of other communities have had the same issues and have had to lock down and go to stricter enforcement as well. There are sites that deal with just about any issue. Some are on GJ and IJ as well as here. Just have to hunt around a bit.

Thanks. Good decision, and I'm sorry you've been pushed to it by so much crap. Deflecting censorship of fandom is a key issue, the one I came here for and one of the reasons I'm keeping my LJ at all.

I'm glad to see you'll be leaving some "news/info" posts open, b/c it's good to know 6A and cyber-journalists and non-members can come here to find this perspective.

Looking forward to seeing a Weasley-like flinging of the "trolls" (aka gnomes) out, out, out of the comm soon!

Everything has to be friends only now? Well, I guess... this is goodbye then. I've enjoyed watching the community up until now. I'm not sure what the point of a friends-only protest group is, mind you, but... well, as I've said before, I probably don't entirely belong here since I've checked out of LJ on my own personal journal and don't really have a vested interest in having LJ become a better place.

Still. Best of luck.

I'm sorry you don't agree with the decision; The f-lock policy is in the interest of the posters' privacy. News and information will be public still, but some points of view draw malicious attention from users who don't agree with the users and the cause of the community. Perhaps in the near future we'll be able to make it so only members can post and comment, but for now there is a technical difficulty with that, and we need to go with the next best road until that can be amended somehow.

Now I feel like we may be the ones doing the silencing.
I agree with this. This is what I thought wrt f-locking posts.
