Hailing unworthy champions

Ha...I was going to post this up on DA but...I'm not sure when I got sick of the responses, but I did. Ditching the entry seemed like a pain too so it's going to go here. Maybe I'll just dump most of the more severe dissery here. That way I can even talk about the blinking idiots on DA without worrying about the mods coming to banhammer me XD

Oh that woman is terrible. I have nothing against the series but I absolutely agree with you. Whats more is that I don't think it's nearly as big a deal as people are saying it is. I mean it's not like homosexuality is something new. If JKR really wanted to do something original and in the spirit of open mindedness she would have made Tonks a lesbian.

I suppose it's best to remember that it's no secret that Rowling reads fan crap.

I KNOW!
I mean seriously Tonks was such a butch woman D8 (compared to the wilty Hermione, annoying Pansy, Floaty Luna, Goodgirl Ginny, bitchy Cho and FRILLY Fleur)and yet somehow she married to the gayest character in the book;

After reading this, I laughed at the thought of how utterly pissed you would be if someone told you what to do with (or even criticized, perhaps) your OCs or their story lines. Not that you don't have the right to bitch in your own lj, of course, but it struck me as funny.

*shrug* I probably won't care as long as the person gives a coherent, relevant arguement.

Afterall, I am NOT a world renowned anything who is richer than the blinking queen and deemed the saviour of a bookless generation.

If you have a good reputation, you should live up to it, and frankly JKR doesn't.

You summed up just about everything that crossed my mind when this 'NEWS' hit the internet airwaves. Like you said, they're books for kids so it's hard to approach them SERIOUSLY and yeah, lol, kids that read it are probabaly still cluless about this whole deal. The way she did all this kinda felt like a way to keep people talking about HP now that it's ended and the next film is a ways off. I wonder how this would have been taken IF Dumboldore had lived...

It would have been slightly more meaningful, but alas the only deemed gay man of the book is old, loveless, closetted, manipulative, with the social ability to get close to children ONLY and as we all know, very much dead.

While I do think the whole fuss over "OMG DUMBY'S GAY??!!" was a bit much, I think it should be said that JK Rowling didn't really "announce" it. Some kid in a Q&A session asked if Dumbledore had ever fallen in love, or something, and JK Rowling replied with the "outing".

It's not like she just trotted up to a microphone and shouted "Dumbledore likes man-ass!" :B

I was told that the questions were sent in prior to the actual day.

Really? I never heard that.

Still, the point is, JK Rowling didn't hold a big press conference to go over who-is-and-is-not-gay, as some people are making it sound like. It was just a tidbit thrown in with a bunch of other tidbits. The only reason it got more attention than others was because "Oh my god, a gay character in a kid's book!"

"But when the questions began - they had been submitted by audience members before the event - she came into her own."

Nobody thought she opened a press conference just to announce of dumbledore's gayness, but she definitely had enough time to decide what to say before saying it. Heck the question wasn't even ABOUT Dumbledore's sexuality but about whether he'd ever found true love, but of COURSE she goes for the GASP-worthy target ( ... )

Dumbledore/Grindelwald is possibly JKR's most PLATONIC relationship, if compared to Draco RIDING ON HARRY'S BROOM SCREAMING, or Snape and Sirius WHIPPING THEIR WANDS OUT AS THEY STRODE ACROSS THE ROOM, and let us not forget the initial LOVING HUG Sirius and Remus shared upon their reunion in book 3.

You have such a nice way of phrasing things, I love reading your rants. <3

I did think Dumbledore was rather gay for Grindewald in the 7th book, but it definitely paled in comparison to other relationships. I also share your dislike of both JK Rowling and the series itself, and while I was going ROFL because my suspicions were confirmed, I was wondering why people were hailing Rowling as such a loving, open-minded person just because of this. ==;;
