Day 1Arrived in National Park. Practised a little off-tracking through scrub. Spirits were not high. I was not fully into it. Later scrabbled up some boulders. Spirits lifted. I went backpack camping with one other guy (Chris) on Fraser Island for six days and five nights. We had nothing but the packs on our back for food, shelter, clothing, water (the pack weighed a little less than 30 kg or 66lbs). I participated in another Race Day at the Lismore Race Track. It was similar to the first race day. However, this event brought in patrons from both the university and the Lismore population at large. According to all my roommates, this race day was larger. Saturday morning was a little rough. After much effort, we went back to Byron Bay. We kept it pretty low key during the day. Saturday night we stayed at an interesting hostel called the Arts Factory. Friday morning Chris, Stephan, Justin, and I surfed for around six hours. We rented boards from a man who runs the company out of his home. Customers call him up and he delivers the board to you as well as provides a free shuttle to the hot spots on the ocean. I was able to stand up on my surf board. Thursday I went to Byron Bay for a musical concert. The band was called The Beautiful Girls. Contrary to the name, the members were not in fact beautiful girls. The music had a reggae vibe as well as a bit of Jack Johnson feel. A lot of students from Orion College were there. As a side note, one bottle of wine is more alcohol than one might ( Read more... )
