I know how you feel better than you could imagine. I might even send you a lengthy e-mail about it later so we can comiserate even though I can't come to DC this weekend. But for now, here's my suggestion: find something meaningful outside of work. Why? Because we live in a piece of shit capitalist world based on fucking people to make some money just so that you don't have to live in utter shit. You've found a way to remove the "fucking people" part from that equation, at least partially, by taking a job tha fucks people a bit less than other jobs. If you can find something better, fucking take it, that's for sure. But until then, you're just doing what everyone in the world is doing--trying to get buy and survive without killing anyone! But if you can find some volunteer stuff to do outside of work, then you might have something to look forward to. Look for a new job if you think you need to, but wait until after the wedding, you won't have time to start something new now. But more importantly remember that you do not have ( ... )

As cliche as it is, I like to think that we can't change the world but we can alter the lives of every person we meet in some way. That's what gets me by when I feel like I'll never accomplish anything significant in the world. My honest advice about your work situation is that for now, especially since you live in a big, expensive city and are going to be married soon, is to keep the cushy job with little satisfaction (for now). Maybe try some volunteer work on the side, because that would help a lot of people and it would probably give you more gratification. Once you're more stable finanically, then would be a good time to start looking for a better job. I've also always been a firm believer that if you want to make a positive difference in the world, and have that desire to help people, in some way you will always end up helping someone - and you're a better person just for wanting to do those things. I hope it all works out, and I don't think I ever told you and Brian congraulations!! :) Take care.

well... I was about to suggest something.. but Ed..pretty much said it for me.

so... ditto

I obviously would hate my life, if I had to see myself in terms of a guy who works at a bank. (and sometimes I do hate my life) .. but mostly that's just my job. and there are other things beyond that for my satisfaction.
