The unexpected snowfall last night gave me a day off from work (apparently Mustangs and snow do NOT mix), so naturally I decided to sneak some pictures of the dogs.

I bought a camera along as I ran with Caboo this morning, and briefly asked him to stop on the trail for a photo op.  Later, we were passed by a bicyclist, who called out, "Beautiful dog.  Best long-distance runners in the world!"

"What?" I asked.

"Huskies," he said.

"He's an Akita."

At age nearly-eight or already-ten, Caboo is still agile, active and fast, but I'm seeing a little stiffness in the morning, and at our vet's suggestion, would like to start him on 600-900mg of glucosamine each day.  The brand that her office carries would run $30/month.  (Unfortunately, money is tight, and Boo already eats an astonishingly ( Read more... )

Here are a couple more pictures of Ichi, my white Akita puppy. These were professional shots done for a fundraiser back in July, she's 4 and a half months now and about..10 pounds bigger? The other dog in the picture is my senior dog, Harley.

Anyone know of a place online or can reccommend a place where I could find some unique Japanese styled/themed collars for my Akita? Or even better yet if a place does interesting custom ID tags too.

Does anyone compete with their Akita in Schutzhund trials or have you ever even heard of an Akita participating in this sport? I have a 12 week old puppy that i'd like to get into some kind of sport and i'm really interested in Schutzhund, so i'm curious to see if anyone else has any experiences with the breed competing in this sport.
