Strange baseball weekend, with the Mets up in Fenway, whilst the Yankees host the Phillies. I'll be making my initial visit to Evil Empire Colisseum tomorrow, to drink nine dollar beers and boo the Phils.

Metro-North is opening direct train service to the Stadium from White Plains. This is good.

I'm taking this in, and it has some merits, but I don't think much of it as an adaptation of the source material. I've never actually read Will Eisner's original Spirit comics, but I have read Darwyn Cooke's recent version, and this isn't much like that ( Read more... )

For my money, this was one of the least successful seasons, although I watched it all the way to the end, which I don't always do. I thought Tony's ultimate motives made some sense, but they didn't really redeem him. And I liked how Kim was written in the big picture, though it could have been better. I was kind of indifferent to Fringe when the season began, but I've gradually warmed up to it, mostly due to gradually warming up to Olivia.This episode, which I guess is the next-to-last, continues in that vein. I've been watching this History Channel series tonight. I like it, but I think the tone is a little bit off. It treats the degree to which the Earth would recover from our passing as a tragedy, whereas I take comfort in the fact that we can't really damage the Earth as lastingly as we think.
