Back to being a travelling fool...

There are myriad things I love about my new job: the responsibility, the challenge, the people, the fact that I get to work normal hours. But one of the things I love the most about it is that they sent me to China last week. China has long been on my list of "Places I really, really need to visit", so being sent there for work was a pleasant and ( Read more... )

Wow. I am so jealous of all the travel you get to do for work. I hope I get to do even a fraction of that some day. Excellent photos, as usual, and the commentary makes them even better.

I didn't expect I'd get to do any travel at *all* like this with my current job--it's just gravy, really. And I'm going to work very, very hard to make sure they feel it was worthwhile to send me!

I am jealous of your job. Would you like an assistant to carry your bags and speak in a British accent? XD

That'd be lovely! I'll let you know when I'll next need your services :)

Oh, those are lovely. The night shots are really gorgeous too. I'm way jealous - I went to China in 2005, and it's hard to believe it was five years ago. And I swear, I took the exact same pictures of the TerraCotta soldiers behind glass, complete with other tourists elbowing each other out of the way!

I remain rather in awe of Trebek's ability to capture night shots. If only I'd had the tripod!!!

The other photobug on the trip was snapping those pics, too. It's really the best shot for conveying the chaos, isn't it? :)

Very much so. The other good chaos shot was at the Forbidden City, which was horrible. Imagine a hundred people all trying to look in one normal-sized window. After a while, we gave up trying to see anything but the backs of people's heads.

(Which is why I usually tell people to go to the Summer Palace instead.)

FABULOUS pictures ! is the sign in #63 just supposed to say twisty road ahead ? Or is it 'look out for mellophone players' ?

We *loved* those signs (including the "No Mellophone" one outside our hotel). It means "honk", basically--and on that particular stretch of road, it absolutely makes sense you'd want to be as noisy as possible.
