Well, that went fast!

I've noticed more and more seasonal lighting displays.  (Alas, the PC's won't say "Christmas lights" anymore).

Many more than last year, which leads to this thought:

So yesterday I was noodling around on GoogleMaps and I decided to check out the address & neighborhood where I was a small child.  My folks bought a house there about a month prior to my birth, and we moved the summer I was nine.

OK, so my internist has been bugging me for years to get a colonoscopy.  This is both because of my advanced age and a family history of colon cancer (grandmother died of it in 1970).

My sister eventually dared me to do it.  She scheduled hers, and then I scheduled mine.

It's fairly well known in my little condo area that there are several deer living in the woods surrounding our units.  But I don't often see them.

This past Tuesday, though, I did.

About a month ago now, maybe a bit more, we had one of those wonderful summer storms.  It hit at about 5 PM complete with sluicing rain and darkness enough to trigger automatic lights to come on.

When my grandfather died, one of his daughters-in-law, my Aunt Kay, quipped that the first thing she thought when she heard the news was, "Is my black suit clean?" and the second was, "What do I have to wear that fits, is clean and isn't red?"

Here in SE Michigan, things are pretty grim.  Chrysler has sold itself to Fiat ("Fix it again, Tony") and GM is in bankruptcy.  Summer is slow in coming; it's rainy and maybe getting up to a high of 67 today.  So the early summer crops are delayed.  They say strawberries are about 3 weeks late, which then creates difficulties for farmers who rely ( Read more... )

You've all heard the proverb about the ugly duckling?  The metaphor being that a duck had its own hatchlings plus a strange one, didn't look like the others, hence "ugly" -- but its difference was because it was a swan, and upon achieving maturity, its beauty became evident.
