I finished my first goal of completing the revision I was working on and getting it off to a new set of trusted readers. Now I'm back to my brand new first draft and pushing for about 1000 words a day. I hit just over 5000 words today.

As of last night, I am almost 49k into my novel, but am finding that I'm hitting a slump and the writing is starting to go slower. I've started NaNo and am cheating a tiny bit on word count and have just been copy/pasting chapters into the daily word count. Is that bad? It might be because of the fact that my novel is coming out Wednesday and family issues that has me feeling rather drained right now. Is there such a thing as writing too much?

Slumps are allowed sometimes. You're only human.

Do whatever you need to do for your process! Don't worry about cheating on word count for NaNo. You have a lot going on all at once! Celebrate what you have--49K! a novel coming out Wednesday! Wow! You're doing great!

You're doing a great job, Katy. Everybody hits slumps, and it sounds like you have a lot on your plate, so good for you for making any kind of progress right now. And congratulations on the novel that's coming out!

I love that "snuggled in to my new WIP." Thinking is very important. I wish I was snuggled into my WIP too. Good luck with your thinking and your writing.

Thinking is good! I've got pretty good momentum on my WIP, except I have noticed that I'm spending a lot of time in one scene. I briefly wondered why, until I realized I don't know what comes next! So I'll be doing some thinking too! :)

September and October did me in, but I have managed to write over 1,000 words a day on Nov. 1, 2, and 3rd! Yesterday was no good, and I'm running *very* late today, but I should be able to get 300-500 words written at some point. My goal is to try to get to 30,000 words on my WIP, which I suspect will be between 1/3 and 1/2 of the way done. And then keep up the pace in December and, if needed, January, until I've got my first draft done. One thing this week has taught me -- don't skip a day, or I'll skip two (or more!) I had a reasonably good excuse today, though -- I voted! :)

I agree on the don't skip a day or it's easier to skip the next and next. That works with exercise too! Ha!

You have a great goal for this month and you've gotten a good start at it. Keep it up!

I think it's better in theory not to skip a day, but there are times when it happens. Then you've just got to forgive yourself and dive back in.

I had a pretty rough and unproductive September and October too, but November's been a whole different story. :) Good luck writing every day!

I'm sorry I always come in so late to comments! It makes it hard for me to catch up. It looks like lots of good progress is happening for so many of us -- yay!!
