I tried to make a pot roast tonight, but I suspect the grocery store mis-labeled a different kind of roast as a pot roast. The thing was much too lean, that should have tipped me off.  Today Elder Son came home and said, "They're upgrading the teachers!" It was a half day for both boys due to "Professional Development" so when Younger Son came in I handed them each a coconut. At a winter party late last year, I had a discussion with my knitting companion. There was a man there as well wearing a commercially knit Irish fisherman's sweater. He was tall and the sweater was too short for him. Also it lacked a waist band and the sleeves were too short, and it might have needed a repair to one of the cuffs. My knitting ( Read more... )

 Tomorrow I call my lawn tractor dealer. They'll send their truck and bring the tractor back to their workshop. In the picture you can see one back end with tail and some feets (alive and wiggling back end and tail and feets. I had not yet started my mower) ....

 I've dug every one of the rocks in the pictures out of my flower beds. There are more piles of rocks, including a now overgrown rock garden, in various places around the house.  I expect when I dig the holes for the fruit bushes and tree I'd like to order, I'll find more rocks.  The whole neighborhood is built on glacial till!

 Today we took out three bushes and trimmed the butterfly bushes.  We had a purple gem rhododendron that was not happy. Every year I'd say, "After it blooms, I should cut it down." This year I didn't wait because it didn't look like there would be much in the way of flowers.  We cut down a butterfly bush that was growing right next to the walk. It ( Read more... )
