Hello everyone! Sorry it's been a while! I meant to sit down and get photos up of my diaries this year, but I only just managed to get around to it today. I have another diary almost finished and was considering uploading pictures but... I bring you my January-March journal for now!
So we last left off with this journal, and a calendar that was not as packed as this one is now...
Apologies as we go forward. I did rotate these, but it's not showing that in the editor. You may have to tilt your head to one side...
New years entries. Last time seeing my grandparents for a while, and I got a bit teary. I never used to get teary before I came out here. Since coming to Japan I cry at everything.
I also continue to be plagued with eye issues. Even now, five months later :/
Anxious for address cards to arrive before LetterMo. I didn't use them all during February, but they are almost all gone now!
Writing on the plane back to Japan. The cabin pressure played merry havoc with my pen!
The moment I landed in Japan, I got a message from my supervisor telling me I had elementary school the following day which... was kind of difficult, since I didn't get back to my house until late that evening by which time I pretty much wanted to collapse. But somehow I managed to pull together a lesson plan the following morning and execute it o/
Some friends invited my friend and I to theirs for lunch, and we did kakizome, which is the equivalent of writing a new years resolution in Japan :) Mine were "keizoku" (perseverence) and "sessa takuma" (to improve oneself through hard work and diligent study, because I asked Kazuyo-san for something with more kanji). Above me, Sharon holds "kansha" (gratitude), Kazuhiro holds "hatsumei" (invention) and I can't recall what his other one is but his were on a theme of invention and creation. Kazuyo's (beside me) are "atarashii kazoku" (a new family) and "anzan" (a safe birth). Their beautiful daughter was delivered last week :)
More lesson planning, and quiet preening over my sixth graders achievements. A mixture of delight, pride and sadness, because a number of them got into private high schools, but then a number of them got into private high schools and I have less of a chance of seeing them again, even if I change schools :(
New Years card from my hairdressers!
Small Japanese lesson from one of my first grade JHS kids. The translation is mine, but the writing is hers - she has lovely writing for a first grade high-schooler! I wish mine was that nice!
NOT SO NICE.
Continuation of the entry before all the Japanese stuff. My Japanese teacher went to a really old shrine over the new year and brought me back a woven keyring and the fortune you see here (I particularly love the entry for childbirth!). I managed to get the keyring onto my bag with a bit of fiddling, but it fell off the holder on my way to my lesson. Luckily a search of the area by daylight and I found it! And it is safely on my bag where it belongs!
So I printed this out. This kind of thing always gets me.
Japanese can be such an interesting language.
Suddenly February!
The first weekend in February means the annual Uchiko Bowling Tournament!
Transitive and intransitive verbs are a nightmare.
One of my kids who is usually always late never showed up for school, and everyone was worried.
Other JETs drama. My neighbour is convinced her kids are all going to come to her house. I live right next door and had the same school and my kids were also my neighbours and I never had this particular problem :/
Intensive Japanese school!
And cat cafe with a good friend.
We got to put the cats to bed!
The sty I got over new years never went away and was particularly gross around this time ._.
Sudden earthquake in Ehime just after the three-year anniversary of the March 11th earthquake. Ehime never has strong earthquakes, and I did completely the wrong things.
And then I also fell off my bike ._.
Sudden finish is sudden! I think I was writing during a break in the Japanese lesson, and then we started up again and I never finished it. And I had decided to move into another journal, so I thought I'd just leave it as it was rather than go back and try to finish the sentence. It still amuses me.
Ink tests!
Forward planner and letter list from January. I aimed to get them all responded-to by the end of January and I did /o/
So that's it from me for now! But I have another journal almost finished, so expect to hear from me again soon <3
