oatmeal
our oatmeal jar is transparent so when I walked in the kitchen and saw a moth clinging to the side I was sort of grossed out because who wants moths in their oatmeal? and then I realized it was on the outside not the inside and that was ok. -
John Green on "The future of reading"
Today I read John Green's article for the School Library Journal, "The Future of Reading: Don't Worry. It Might Be Better Than You Think." Even though I'm not the target audience, I thought it was a good piece of general interest, that did a good job encouraging its target audience (youth librarians) about the future.

Rain
So this morning on KQED they were saying we were (at 8:30, when I left for work) on the tail end of the worst rain storm the Bay Area has seen in years. I was here for that one, too. Letter to a young cartoonist
Today I discovered "Letters of Note", a website dedicated to publishing interesting old letters. It's neat. They've got one from Margaret Thatcher to Ronald Reagan, one from Billie the Kid to a state govorner, and the one that brought me to the website.

I seem to recall a science fiction story in which this research team is trying to build something fantastic. They're hindered, though, by not realizing that the engineer who just retired was the very reason they were ever able to get anything done. Nobody much understood what he did, so they let him go.
