My life as a foodie (I actually hate the word foodie, along with the phrase "artsy-fartsy"  *shudder*  I don't really know why...)

I was at a party a few years ago with a chocolate theme. We watched the movie chocolat (the one with Johnny Depp). We had all kinds of chocolates and to drink we had "mexican hot chocolate" I don't have the receipe but my friend who made it had imported mexican chocolate with actual cocoa nibs. Also sweetened with honey I believe. The local U.U. church sells fair trade chocolate bars one variety uses cocoa nib. Sooo Good.

Interesting technique. I've never thought about making a spicy simple syrup...but it makes sense. I will have to try this....maybe some iced for my BBQ in July.

When making a quick cup at home I just heat the milk, grate in the chocolate and add a few dashes of powdered spice...I love my Penseys spices. Always fresh, good quality and nothing but the spice.

For the spicy chocolate record, the "chocolate crack" I made for my wedding had ancho, chipotle, cayenne and cinnamon.

For individual servings I usually just stir in some powdered spices, but when I've tried to do that on a large scale the spices settle at the bottom, things glom together, etc. I've been surprised at how well infusing the whole dried chili in the milk works.

You can call it a Skinny Dip Party! Now all we need is a hottub filled with guacamole....

I like it when you ramble, please don't stop.

And the drink sounds yummy, even if it doesn't contain alcohol...

It is a ready recipient of a sniff or two of brandy, whiskey, kahlua or the like.
