Larry and I spent the last few days in Somesville. The weather varied a lot. One day was warm (60 degrees!) and rainy, and another was cold and cloudy. Not much sunshine. I was driving down the Mass. Turnpike in a slushy rainstorm. Suddenly my car made the loud whistling noise that it makes when a warning light is about to come on. Although I know this happens, for example, when the gas is running low and in other not-exactly-emergency situations, the sound always sets off a little blast of adrenaline. After many years of construction and many billions of dollars, the Big Dig tunnel in Boston is leaking. A lot. This bothers me somewhat because I have been driving through it a lot lately. The engineers keep reassuring us that it isn't dangerous, the tunnel won't collapse, and I guess it won't fill up with water and drown us all. And yet it is ( Read more... )

Larry and I are watching the baseball playoff game, the 7th game against the Yankees. I have watched the last 4 games (except when I was asleep), and this is very unusual for me.
