A new Percy story

Jan 21, 2007 20:56

This is a little missing moment from Chamber of Secrets with Arthur and Percy from Arthur's perspective. I was inspired by the way Mandrakes are used in other works of literature and their historical mythological connotations. I hope it is enjoyable and that a few Percy-fans might find it ( Read more... )

I love the foreshadowing of leaving the window open just a crack. Wow. Good advice for Arthur.

It's funny that because Percy always seems so much older - it's hard to imagine him making a mistake with Penelope. I like how this is a parallel to the mistakes he does end up making in trying to grow up too fast - and how Dumbledore is able to anticipate it.

The butterflies are such a perfect image - the soul instead of the body is really what is at issue here. Well done, Julie! I shall rec. you on my journal tomorrow!

You know I usually write and think about Percy as a young adult, so it was a lot of fun to put him back into that teenage place. Yes, there are lots of little connections going on for me in this, whether they translate or not I'm not sure. I'm glad you like the butterflies and Arthur leaving a crack in the window. :)

Hope the giggling Prince got off to bed! The drama queens are finally all sound asleep. Talk to you again soon...thanks for all the support!

Oh, I LOVE THIS! I love Arthur. And the conversation between Arthur and Dumbledore. I love that Percy looks like a young version of Arthur. I love the butterfly. And this...

Every year it was the same. His children left him one way and returned another. It was always a little frightening to see the clear passage of time etched on their bodies.

Oh, it just broke my heart a little.

*hugs* wonderful you!

Julie, that was such a rich story, full of truth and hints of the future. I have just started reading your Percy stories. (Thank you Mary!)

Arthur Weasley is one of my favorite characters, and even though it sounds lame, he reminds me so much of my own father. He was an engineer with his head full of work related ideas, but a tender and loving parent, as well.

Percy and Penny complete each other in much the same way that Arthur and Molly do. I look forward to more of your stories.

Oh thank you SO much for reading this and for all of your very kind feedback on Hiding. Yes, I do love Percy and Penny together. There's something about the idea that Percy has someone who *gets* him, that is so romantic to me. And I think it is a common thing - you can love your family but they may not always completely understand you and then out there in the world is a person who does and you are on this journey to find them.

I had a lot of fun playing around with the way Arthur and Percy are disconnected and yet so totally connected. As I love them both, I am really hoping for the father/son theme to come to a satisfying resolution.

Thanks again for reading and for all the support!

What a pleasant surprise to come by one of your stories!

I love the awkwardness between Arthur and Percy. It made me think about how being a parent to the always fastidious Percy would be difficult for fun-loving, easy-going Arthur. Yet, in their devotion to the women in their life, they share a similarity as well as strength of character.

Great story! You did a good job of capturing Percy's distractedness and Arthur's unease! Lovely as ever! :D

Thanks Lisa!
Yes, I think they are probably frequently trying to connect and missing. My husband's father passed away a few years ago, and I'm amazed by the power of the father/son connection. It's never-ending and truly life-shaping. And what's so fascinating to me about it has to do with how it has to be broken at the same time that it stays together.

Ah, deep thoughts! Thanks for reading - much love!
